Book Review: The magic straw hat

The magic Straw Hat took me to the time, I was a little kid sitting next to my grandmama, listening to her tales of her own experiences, and magic from far-off lands. I used believe her enchanting tales, and hope for magic in my life. Then, go back to her and regale her with my magical moments.

The Magic Straw Hat is a tale about magic, and hope. It is a charming story which would capture the imagination of kids. The author, Karen Jonice Bricker, has beautifully portrayed the love between Catie, and her Grammy. Caitie’s grandmother tells her the story behind her great-grandmother’s magic straw hat, and how her great-grandmother came from Ireland to America, and sold pies.

Caitie borrows the hat to show off. However, the wind blows off the hat. She follows it on a fun ride around the town, and finally experiences her own magical discovery. Caitie’s escapades are believable and compelling. Kids can easily relate to Caitie’s concerns.

The book has a vivid description of Caitie’s journey, and her feelings accompanied by bright, and cheerful illustrations. The beautifully depicted Caitie’s expressions are sure to bring a smile on your child’s face.

Book description:

The Magic Straw Hat is the story of a little girl named Caitie, who takes us on a journey full of adventure and excitement as she discovers her great-grandmother’s straw hat, and the magic it brings along for the ride.

Like her great-grandmother’s arrival in America, Caitie faces many ups and downs, but she ultimately discovers a new-found hope, and a special friend.

Join Caitie as she learns the true magic of her great-grandmother’s straw hat, and reveal a little true magic of your own.

The Verdict:

The Magic Straw Hat is an enchanting book to read aloud to children, and a compelling read for starters. I would recommend this book for kids from 4-6 years of age.
